Aster House on the Big Sur coast, looking out over the Pacific Ocean

Big Sur, California

Twenty-two rooms at the edge of the Pacific.

Aster House is a small coastal retreat above the water in Big Sur, a restaurant, wellness treatments and private walking trails, held within one quiet property.

The house

A retreat measured in quiet, not in floors.

Aster House sits on the Big Sur coast, facing the Pacific. It was built around a simple idea: keep the property small, keep everything a guest needs within it, and let the coastline do the rest of the work.

Twenty-two rooms. A restaurant you never have to drive to. Treatments arranged on site. Trails that belong to the house. Nothing else competing for your attention.

The architecture and interior character of Aster House

Rooms

Twenty-two rooms, each turned toward the water.

The house holds twenty-two guest rooms and no more. Pacific Ocean views run through the property, so the coast is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing that goes dark.

Because the house is small, rooms are arranged by conversation rather than by category. Tell us who is travelling and what you want to wake up to, and we will place you.

The restaurant

Dinner is a short walk from your room.

The restaurant is on site, which on this stretch of coast matters more than it sounds. There is no drive down Highway 1 in the dark, no planning around the distance. You come in from the trail, and the table is already there.

Dining for house guests is arranged as part of your stay. Let us know your dates and any dietary needs when you inquire and we will take care of the rest.

Wellness

A day here has a shape, and you set it.

Treatments are offered on the property and booked around you rather than around a timetable. Everything else, the trails, the table, the view, is already within walking distance.

Morning

The coast, first

The private trails start at the house. Most mornings begin on them, before anything is scheduled.

Afternoon

Treatments on site

Wellness treatments are arranged on the property, so there is nothing to travel to and nothing to rush back from.

Evening

The restaurant

Dinner is served on site, with the Pacific going quiet somewhere past the windows.

The Big Sur coastline surrounding Aster House

Private trails

Paths that belong to the house.

Big Sur is famously hard to reach and worth every mile of it. The walking trails here are private to the property, so the coastline outside your door is not shared with a parking lot.

Walk out before breakfast, or take the long way back from the restaurant. The ocean is the constant; the route is yours.

Booking

Book with the house, not a middleman.

With twenty-two rooms, a stay is arranged by the people who look after them. Inquire directly and you speak to the house about your dates, your room and your table, in one conversation.
